1917-2007

tired and cannot sleep.
my grandmother passed away less than 9 days ago.
just landed back in Beijing less than 12 hours ago after a short visit to Israel for the seven days of mourning. My parents exempt me from flying over; I'm glad i didn't listen. i last saw savta on her 90th birthday in April earlier this year. she was weak after a surgery and some treatments but still clear and cheerful.
90 years living on this planet. I'm a bit over 30. my father is almost 60.
savta never got used to the Israeli weather. years ago, when i romantically hand-picked cherries for n, i was probably influenced by savta's stories about how she and saba strolled in Koln eating cherries from a paper cone... she could repeat this story many many times and I always liked to hear about it...
Germany savta was burn in is not Germany she left. Israel savta came to build - is not Israel she left. 1 family. 2 sons. 7 grandchildren. 2 great-granddaughters. legendary apple cake / 'Apfelmousse' / cookies.
we miss you already.
